Philadelphia Wings News Release
TRENTON, NJ - The Philadelphia Wings suffered their second defeat of the season with a 20-13 loss to the New York Titans. Philadelphia is still 7-2 on the season and in first place in the East Division. The Wings will return home again on Sunday, April 6 to face the Toronto Rock at 8:00 p.m.
"We took a few costly penalties tonight, but overall we just didn't play strong lacrosse," said Wings' Head Coach Dave Huntley. "We knew that New York was a dangerous team and we just didn't match their effort." After ending the first quarter in a 2-2 tie with the Titans, the Wings offense stalled in the second with New York leading Philadelphia 9-6 going into the half. Eleven minutes of Wings penalties in the third quarter resulted in three Titans' power play goals. Despite scoring two goals shorthanded, Philadelphia was down 15-9 after three. The Wings fared no better in the fourth quarter, which has traditionally been their strongest this season, and suffered their first franchise loss to the Titans. Leading the Wings in scoring were Athan Iannucci with five points (4G, 1) followed by Geoff Snider with five points (1G, 5A), Jake Bergey with three points (2G, 1A), Jason Crosbie with two goals, A.J. Shannon and Merrick Thomson each with two points (1G, 1A), and John Christmas and Rob Van Beek all with one goal.
Leading the Titans in scoring were Casey Powell with 11 points (4G,7A), followed by Ryan Boyle with seven points (4G, 3A), Jordan Hall with seven points (2G, 5A), Pat Maddalena with six points (3G, 3A), Mike McLellan with four points (1G, 3A), Mitch Belisle with three points (2G, 1A), Brendan Mundorf with three points (1G, 2A), Jeff Ratcliffe with two goals, and Matt Alrich with one goal.
