Wings Reduce Roster, Nine Join Griffins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Colin Campbell and Martin Frk and defensemen Mattias Backman, Richard Nedomlel and Ryan Sproul to the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, the club released forwards Shane Berschbach, Alden Hirschfeld and Mark Zengerle from their professional tryouts, returning them to Grand Rapids.

This group of nine joins 14 others on the Griffins' roster in time for a pair of neutral-site preseason games against the Lake Erie Monsters this weekend. Grand Rapids will first battle the Monsters on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario, before squaring off again on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.
