Arizona Coyotes Assign Six to Portland Pirates

Saco, ME - Arizona Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today the reassignment of six players from the Arizona Coyotes to the Portland Pirates.

The players assigned Thursday were forwards Jordan Szwarz, Lucas Lessio, and Tobias Rieder, defensemen Brandon Gormley and Andrew Campbell, as well as goalie Louis Domingue.

Szwarz, a 5-foot-11, 200 pound right wing from Burlington, Ontario is entering his fourth season in Portland. He served as the Pirates' captain during the 2013-14 season. He received his first NHL recall last season, playing 26 games for the Coyotes, scoring 3-0-3. Szwarz also played 27 games with Portland, where he totaled 8-6-14. The 23 year-old was a Coyotes' 4th Round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons with the OHL's Saginaw Spirit before turning pro.

Lessio, a 6-foot-1, 206 pound left wing from Maple, Ontario had a stellar rookie season with the Pirates last season. He led the team in goals and was fourth among all AHL rookies last season, scoring 29 times. He added 25 assists for 54 points in 69 games. The 21 year-old also played three games with Coyotes last season, but went scoreless. A Coyotes' 2nd Round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Lessio played three seasons with the OHL's Oshawa Generals before joining the Pirates at the end of the 2012-13 regular season. He totaled 1-1-2 in five regular season games with Portland that year, and added 0-2-2 in three Calder Cup Playoff games.

Rieder, a 5-foot-11, 185 pound right wing from Landshut, Germany begins his second season with the Pirates. He finished second on the team and fifth among all AHL rookies last season with 28 goals, to go with 20 assists for 48 points in 64 games. The 21 year-old represented Germany at the 2014 IIHF World Championships and scored a goal against the USA. Originally drafted in the 4th Round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, he was traded to the Coyotes on March 29, 2013. Prior to playing pro, Rieder spent three seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL.

Gormley, a 6-foot-2, 196 pound defenseman from Murray River, Prince Edward Island begins his third season in Portland. The 22 year-old made his NHL debut with the Phoenix Coyotes last season, going scoreless in five games. He also notched career highs in all three scoring categories with the Pirates last season (7-29-36) in 54 games while serving as an Assistant Captain. Selected in the 1st Round (13th Overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Gormley played three seasons with the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats (2008-2011) and one season with the Shawinigan Cataractes (2011-12) before he turned pro. He won a President's Cup with Moncton in 2010 and the MasterCard Memorial Cup with Shawinigan in 2012.

Campbell, a 6-4, 206 pound defenseman from Caledonia, Ontario, begins his first season with the Portland Pirates. He spent the last six years in the Los Angeles Kings organization, spending most of that time with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs. Last season, Campbell served as the Monarchs' Captain and scored 3-13-16 in 69 games. He also played in the first three games of NHL career last season with the Kings. Drafted by Los Angeles in the 3rd Round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the 26 year-old played three seasons for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL prior to joining Manchester.

Domingue, a 6-foot-3, 210 pound goalie from Mont-St.-Hilaire, Quebec, joins the Pirates for his second season. He played in 36 games for Portland last season, posting a 9-18-2 record, a 3.63 goals against average, a 0.890 save percentage, and one shutout. In 2013-14, he also played seven games with the Pirates' ECHL affiliate, the Gwinnett Gladiators, with a 1-3-2 record, a 2.01 GAA, a 0.939 save percentage, and one shutout. The 22 year-old made his Pirates debut during the 2012-13 season, appearing in two games and winning his only start. Domingue was a Coyotes' 5th Round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Before joining the pro ranks, Domingue played two seasons with the QMJHL's Moncton Wildcats from 2008-10 and two season with the Quebec Remparts from 2010-12.

Pirates Training Camp continues with another on-ice session tomorrow (Friday) from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the MHG Ice Center in Saco. The Pirates play their first preseason game this Saturday at the Cross Insurance Arena against the Manchester Monarchs in a preview of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires & Service. Game time will be 7:00 p.m. and tickets will be available on the day of the game only. The Pirates then travel to Manchester on Sunday to face the Monarchs at Sullivan Arena on the campus St. Anselm College. Sunday's game begins at 3:00 p.m.
