Wings Put Luck of the Irish on Their Side

March 13, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Philadelphia Wings News Release

The Philadelphia Wings put the luck of the Irish on their side when they host the division leading Toronto Rock in the team's St. Paddy's Day Kick-Off at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m.

Philadelphia looks to bounce back against the Rock after having their three game win streak snapped last Saturday against the Washington Stealth. The Wings are currently in second place in the East, one and a half games behind the Rock and one game up on Buffalo. This weekend's match-up will be the second meeting with Toronto this season, with one more opportunity to play the division rivals in the regular season home finale in April.

Injuries have affected the Wings in recent weeks. The team played without their captain Brodie Merrill, last week. And have missed the services of assistant captain and defensive anchor, Brett Manney, for the past two weeks, as both are out with injuries. The team's leading face-off man, Jeff Reynolds is also recovering from a leg injury. Reynolds' absence was noticed as the Wings were dominated in the faceoff circle, winning only four of 30 face-offs.

The injuries on the defensive side means it will be even more essential for the team to get their big guns on the offensive side back on track. Specifically star forward Kevin Crowley, who was held without a goal for the second time this season. Although the Wings have not had a clear offensive go-to player step up this season, the team has seen a balanced scoring effort, with at least six players scoring in six of the last seven games.

"We've been taking a lot of shots early in the clock or shots that maybe we think look good but are really just the shots the defense want to give us," said Wings coach Johnny Mouradian. "We just need to get back to sharing the ball and running our principles."

With a win on Saturday, Toronto can clinch a playoff spot. The Rock, at 7-3 lead the East division and have the league's top goaltender in Nick Rose, who leads the NLL in wins and saves with seven and 412 respectively. Rose sits at third in the league with a 10.68 goals against average.

The game on Saturday will feature a special St. Paddy's Day package. For just $17, fans can get a lower level ticket, a limited edition green Wings shirt and a $10 gift certificate to Xfinity Live!
