Washington Stealth News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Washington Stealth goaltender Tyler Richards was named NLL Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Stealth's 16-10 road win over Philadelphia on Saturday. It's the second Player of the Week honor for Richards and eighth for the Stealth this season. Richards was tapped after turning in another eye-catching performance in goal for the Stealth over the weekend, making 42 saves on 52 shots for a .808 save percentage and contributing two assists in Washington's first-ever win in Philadelphia. This season, the Coquitlam, British Columbia native and number-one stopper for the Stealth is currently tied for first in the NLL with an .807 save percentage, second in both goals against average at 10.35 and saves with 384 and is third in wins with six. The 7-4 Stealth, which have risen to the NLL championship game in two of the last three seasons, are currently on top of the NLL West and are just one win from securing their third post-season spot in four years. Other NLL players to be honored in Week 10 include Calgary Roughnecks forward Dane Dobbie (Offensive Player of the Week), Toronto Rock transition player Jesse Gamble (Transition Player of the Week) and Colorado Mammoth goaltender Tye Belanger (Rookie of the Week).
Other Stealth player award recipients this season include Cliff Smith (offensive), Mitch McMichael (transition) and Kyle Buchanan (rookie) who won Player of the Week honors in Week 1. In Week 2, Smith (offensive) was honored for the second consecutive week. In Week 6 McMichael (transition) was tapped for the second time this season along with Richards (defensive), while Rhys Duch was named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 9 and Richards was tapped for the second time for the defensive honor in Week 10.
The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league's general managers and head coaches. After a week off, Washington is back home on Saturday, March 30 for an NLL West Division matchup against Calgary. Game time at Everett's Comcast Arena is 6:45 p.m. PT.
