PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Philadelphia Wings (5-11) dropped their season finale to the Orlando Titans (10-5) by the score of 11-5 at the Wachovia Center Saturday night. Defense and goaltending won out in the first half, but it was Orlando who was able to get their offense going behind star forward Casey Powell who had four second half points (3G, 1A).
Each team was able to score three first half goals and neither had a standout offensive star, due in large part to the outstanding goaltending in the first two quarters. Philadelphia's Brandon Miller stopped 27 of 30 shots through two quarters for a .900 save percentage. Orlando's Kurtis Wagar matched Miller each step of the way shutting down the Wings by stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced for a .875 save percentage.
The second half belonged to the Titans. Powell opened the third quarter scoring and went on to add two more goals in the period. Wagar shutout Philadelphia in the period, stopping all nine shots he faced. The fourth quarter began with two more Titans goals to extend their lead to six. The Wings Drew Westervelt ended the team's long scoring drought with just over four minutes to play in the game, but Orlando fired back with two scores of their own to finish the game and hand Philadelphia the 11-5 loss.
