Wings Clip Bruins in Overtime, 3-2

AUSTIN, Minn. - The Bruins scored the first two goals of the game but the Aberdeen Wings scored three unanswered to knock off the Bruins on Saturday night, 3-2.

Without the services of Connor Mylymok or Jed Pietila, the Bruins entered Saturday's game with a slightly different looking line-up. Despite the shake-up, the fireworks and the lack of offense on Friday, the Bruins jumped on top first. Midway through the first period, with Austin on their first power-play of the night, Tiernan Shoudy ripped a wrister from the high slot past Henry Welsch for the 1-0 lead. Following the Bruins power-play success, the attention shifted to their penalty-killing unit which was busy all night long. In total, the Bruins committed eight penalties, including Dante Sheriff who was removed from the game for spearing in the second. Without their best offensive scorer this season, the Bruins held tight and managed to hold their 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Out of the gate in the third period, Austin added to their lead thanks to Mason McCormick. The first-year Bruin deftly redirected a Jaden Shields wrister from the point to take control of the scoreboard. Aberdeen proved to be persistent, scoring their first goal of the game a little more than two minutes late, cutting the lead in half, 2-1. Later in the third period, despite being a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill, the Bruins cracked with Aberdeen tallying their game tying goal on a shot that bounced off goaltender Tyler Shea, hopped in the air and over the goal-line. Neither team could break the scoreless tie in regulation, so overtime was necessary.

Just like the Bruins won in overtime against the Wings back in September, Aberdeen returned the favor. With only one second remaining on the clock, Mack Byers took a shot that slid through the five-hole of Shea and cross the line with no time left on the clock, sealing the win and the extra point for the Wings, 3-2.

With the loss, Austin falls in back-to-back games against Aberdeen and moves their record to 9-7-2-2. With the win, the Wings improve to double-digit wins, 10-4-4-1.

Austin is back in action at Riverside Arena on Friday, November 22 against the Minnesota Wilderness, the first of a home-and-home series on the weekend. Tickets for Friday's game go on sale Monday, November 18th at all the Bruins vendors including Games People Play, Hy-Vee, Holiday Inn, and Jim's Marketplace.
