Wichita Wingnuts News Release

LAREDO, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts knocked off the Laredo Lemurs 6-2 Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium, capping off their third consecutive series victory over their divisional rivals.

The Wingnuts (43-25) grabbed the lead early, scoring the first run of the contest two batters in. Christian Stringer started the evening with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a Zack Cox single.

Wichita added another in the second, and Stringer was once again involved as be brought Brent Dean in with a single.

The visitors then added two more in the fourth. Harrison Kain raced home on a wild pitch uncorked by Jose Nivar (3-2), and Leo Vargas then scored on an error by Leandro Castro.

The Lemurs (37-32) picked up their only two runs in the sixth. Three straight singles against Alex Boshers (8-3) brought the first run home, and then the third of the three double plays turned by the Wingnuts on the night brought in a second tally.

The Wingnuts then pushed the lead back to four in the ninth, as Matt Chavez plated a pair with a double to make it 6-2.

Boshers exited after the sixth, having allowed two runs on seven hits to collect his sixth consecutive quality start. The righty has now won four starts in a row, and is tied for second in the league with eight victories for the year.

Behind Boshers, Chad Nading loaded the bases in the seventh, but worked his way out of it to keep the margin at two.

That spot was the lone troublesome one for the Wingnuts bullpen, as Seth Harvey worked a scoreless eighth for the second straight night, and Frankie Reed retired the side in order in the ninth to give Wichita their ninth victory over the Lemurs this year, giving them the season series over Laredo.

The Wingnuts will now have the next three days off for the All-Star break before returning to action on Thursday as they open-up a four-game series at Haymarket Park against the Lincoln Saltdogs. First pitch on Thursday is set for 6:35, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
