Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts mustered a season-low two hits Wednesday night, as they fell 5-0 to the Lincoln Saltdogs in the finale of their three-game series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Lincoln (38-26) wasted little time in opening the scoring, taking the lead three batters in. Robby Kuzdale and Luis Alen began the game with back-to-back singles off of Jon Link (7-5), and Kuzdale then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Jacobs.

The score remained 1-0 until the sixth. With two outs, Jon Smith tripled into right, bringing home two more to push the Saltdogs lead to three.

The visitors added two more in the eighth, as Austin Darby brought in a run with a fielder's choice and Smith added his third RBI of the night on a single.

Wichita (41-24) started the evening out with a lead-off single from Christian Stringer in the bottom of the first, but then went the next 28 batters before they grabbed a second, a one-out single in the ninth by Brent Clevlen.

In a spot start, Jeff McKenzie (4-3) went five and a third scoreless, allowing just the one hit, but also five walks, helping to cut his evening short.

Behind their starter, the Saltdogs bullpen retired nine in a row and 11 of the last 12 to seal up Lincoln's second series victory at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium this season.

After an off day on Thursday, the Wingnuts will head down to Laredo on Friday to open up a three-game series against the Lemurs at Uni-Trade Stadium. Southpaw Todd Kibby (1-1, 6.90) will get the starting nod for Wichita, while Laredo has yet to announce their starter for Friday's series opener. First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
