WICHITA, Kans. - Matt Chavez went 4-for-4 and drove in four as the Wichita Wingnuts hammered the Joplin Blasters 10-2 Sunday afternoon to salvage the final game of the three-game weekend series.

Geraldo Valentin opened the scoring two batters in for Joplin (20-41), launching a solo homer. Wichita (40-22) answered with a solo homer of their own in the bottom half, as Zack Cox took Luis Gonzalez (0-1) deep.

The Wingnuts then grabbed the lead in the third. T.J. Mittelstaedt broke the tie with an RBI double, one of his four knocks on the afternoon, then came in on a towering two-run blast by Chavez. Brennen Salgado then completed the four-run inning a couple batters later with an RBI single.

In the sixth, an error helped the Wingnuts add to their lead, with Richard Prigatano picking up an RBI to stretch the lead to five.

The offensive support was plenty for Eddie Medina (3-3), who went four straight scoreless frames after allowing the first inning homer. In all, the righty allowed two runs on five hits over six innings to pick up his fifth quality start of the campaign.

Wichita added another run on an error in the seventh, then finished off their afternoon with a three-run eighth. Cox drove in a run with a single, and then Chavez capped off his four-hit four-RBI day with a two-run double.

Behind Medina, Wichita sent the trio of Chase Johnson, Seth Harvey, and Frankie Reed to work the final three innings, and the trio combined to retire the final nine Joplin hitters of the afternoon.

The Wingnuts continue their six-game homestand Monday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium as the Lincoln Saltdogs come to town to open up a three-game series. Wichita will send right-hander Tim Brown (5-2, 4.86) to the hill, while Lincoln will counter with fellow righty Ryan O'Sullivan (3-3, 5.00). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
