Wichita Wingnuts News Release

The Wichita Wingnuts emphatically put an end to their season-high four-game skid Tuesday afternoon, routing the St. Paul Saints 11-1 at CHS Field.

The Wingnuts (53-35) jumped out to an early lead against Corey Williams (1-2), who struggled with his control in the opening inning, walking three total, including bases loaded free passes to Matt Chavez and Richard Prigatano to put the visitors up 2-0.

Alonzo Harris doubled on the first pitch he saw of the afternoon in the bottom of the first, but was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice to keep St. Paul (56-33) off the board.

Alex Boshers (11-3) took the momentum from the first inning and rode with it, hardly facing any threats throughout the afternoon. The righty had a double play turned behind him in the third to help erase an error, and did not allow more than one runner to reach in any inning afterwards.

Boshers went seven innings for the afternoon and allowed just one run, a Trever Adams solo shot in the seventh, to collect his 11th win of the season which ties him for the league lead. The win also improves the Wingnuts record to 12-2 in games in which he starts.

Wichita added two more runs of support in the third, as Brent Dean and Leo Vargas put together back-to-back run-producing singles with two down.

The big inning was the fourth for Wichita. Chavez chased Williams with a two-run single, Nick Van Stratten singled in a run, Vargas drew a bases loaded walk, and Christian Stringer capped the five-run outburst with a sacrifice fly.

The visitors' lead ballooned to double digits in the seventh, as Brennen Salgado added a sacrifice fly. Following the Adams seventh inning homer, Wichita pushed the lead back to 10 in the ninth, as Van Stratten added his second RBI single of the day, plating Brent Clevlen for the veteran's third run scored of the afternoon.

The rubber match of this series between the Wingnuts and Saints is Wednesday evening at CHS Field. Right-hander Eddie Medina (5-5, 5.40) will get the starting nod for Wichita, while St. Paul has yet to announce Wednesday's starting pitcher. First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
