Wilson Tobs News Release
(Wilson, N.C.) - The Wilson Tobs came back to action after three straight rain outs and picked up a 5-1 victory over the Edenton Steamers. In two matchups, the Tobs have won both against the Steamers.
Wilson hopped out to a 1-0 lead in the home half of the second. Drew DeVine led off the inning with single to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games. DeVine scored on a De'Andre Pitts RBI single for his first Tobs' hit. The Steamers answered back immediately in the top of the third. Three straight batters singled as Alex Alders brought home Dane Simon to tie the game at one.
The Tobs regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Hunter Gore doubled home Pitts. Gore later scored on an error. Wilson added two more in the seventh on one swing of the bat. Deshawn Lookout launched his second home run of the season, taking over the team lead, and giving the Tobs a 5-1 advantage.
Wilson cruised the rest of the way. The pitching combination of Grant Fermion, Nate Fiala, Jimmy Sharkey and CJ Gonzalez made quick work, allowing just the one run in the third. Edenton left 14 runners on the bases, including the bases loaded twice.
Fiala (1-0) earned the victory in four innings of relief work. CJ Dornak (1-1) was handed his first loss of the summer season. Including exhibition games, the Tobs are a perfect 7-0 at home and are now 6-2 in the regular season.
The Tobs are back home on Wednesday at 12 noon for an exhibition game against the High Point Locos. It's Super Splash Day at Fleming Stadium, brought to you by Southern Bank. Tickets are available online, by calling the front office or visiting the box office on game days.
*Programming Note* Wednesday's game against High Point will not be televised.
