Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE "" After completing his first full year with the Omaha Lancers this past season, Michael Wilson has committed to play collegiate ice hockey at Army West Point to begin the 2016-2017 season.
"I am really grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Army West Point family," said Wilson. "I couldn't be more excited to greater my hockey career at such a prestigious university and also continue to better myself as a person."
Prior to coming to the Lancers, Wilson spent four seasons at Fond du Lac High School in Wisconsin. In four seasons, Wilson played in 94 total games and recorded 88 goals and 85 assists while averaging 1.84 points per game during his high school career.
"We're very happy for Michael," said Lancers head coach & general manager Brian Kaufman. "Michael was constantly one of the hardest workers on the team this season. His hard work and dedication will fit in perfectly at Army West Point."
After the high school season came to an end in 2013-2014, Wilson suited up for one game in Omaha before returning this past year full-time. In 34 games with the Lancers in the 2014-2015 campaign, Wilson had two assists and 55 penalty minutes.
"The Lancers' coaching staff has made a crucial impact on my hockey career and I can't thank them enough for my first year in Omaha," Wilson added. "I am looking forward to returning and completing unfinished business this coming season."
West Point Military Academy began a rebranding process athletically and from now on will refer to its teams as Army West Point instead of just Army. All 28 of the school's sports teams will have a new main logo featuring a shield, sword, star and helmet.
