Wilmington Sea Dawgs News Release
Wilmington, NC: Solid interior defense, including 4 blocks from "Big" Mike Gibbs brought the Sea Dawgs to a 92-82 vicory over the Fayetteville Crossover. The Sea Dawgs were led by Nealy with 31 and J.J. Cook with 18. DeShawn McClean with 23 and Brandon Streeter with 22 led the Crossover.
The Fayetteville squad was as hot from outside as the Sea Dawgs were cold in the first quarter. However, as has been the case throughout the year, the Sea Dawgs turned up the defensive intensity to close the early Crossover advantage to just six, 21-15.
The Sea Dawgs outside shooting struggles and defensive intensity continued into the second quarter. For Wilmington though, the best offense has been a good defense. And with strong rebounding and points off turnovers, the Dawgs eventually pushed out to a 37-30 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw the Dawgs stick with rebounding and inside shots, but increased defensive pressure by Fayetteville and timely outside shots, including a three by former Sea Dawg Raheim Murphy, had the Sea Dawg lead stalled at 67-62.
Play in the fourth quarter was marred by fouls to both teams, including an eyepoke that sent Wilmington's James Rhodes to the locker room.
The Sea Dawgs are back in action at the Schwartz Center next Friday at 7:00PM to host the Queen City Express.
