Williamson Leads Columbus over Knoxville, 5-2

Bryce Williamson was all over the ice for the Columbus Cottonmouths, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Columbus' 5-2 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

Williamson scored at 12:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Columbus and again while 8:29 into the third to make the score 4-2 Columbus.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts.

The Cottonmouths put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Knoxville to score on any of its three power plays. Columbus' goal total was higher than its season average. The Cottonmouths average 2.8 goals per game. The 44 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 29.0 shots per game this season.

Columbus also got points from Matt Gingera, who also had one goal and two assists and Nick Curry, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Shawn Bates also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Kyle Johnson, Louis Belisle, and Neilsson Arcibal, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Knoxville relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Eric Satim, Josh Cousineau and Berkley Scott took 24 of the team's 39 shots.

The Ice Bears were helped by Brett Valliquette, who registered one goal. Valliquette scored 4:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Cousineau assisted on the tally. Knoxville also got a goal from Robbie Donahoe as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Jason Price, Dennis Sicard, and Francis Drolet, who contributed one each.

Shannon Szabados made 37 saves for Columbus on 39 shots. The Cottonmouths ended with 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. For Columbus, Patrick McCadden and Will Aide were ejected from the contest. Knoxville's Bryan Hince stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Ice Bears ended with 48 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Team's Corey Fulton and Sicard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
