Williams shakes up Viper roster
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Tennessee Valley Vipers head coach, Chris Williams, has decided to shake up the Vipers roster one week after a 21-17 win over rival Birmingham.
The Vipers have been assigned Travon Magee, Daren Williams, Brandon Washington and Mark Myers. The Vipers also picked up Domonique Dunbar off waivers from Memphis.
Magee (WR/LB, 6-7, 255) played tight end at Kansas State and has been playing professionally in an outdoor league in California.
Williams (FB/LB, 6-2, 270) has played in five seasons in the Arena Football League with the Anaheim Piranhas, New England SeaWolves , Toronto Phantoms and Connecticut Coyotes. He has rushed 97 times for 259 yards and 19 touchdowns and caught 16 passes for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he has recorded 90 solo tackles, 44 assists, 3.5 sacks, four pass break ups, three fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one interception. He played in three games for the Green Bay Blizzard last season and rushed five times for 16 yards and recorded 3.5 tackles. He played college football at the University of Nebraska.
Washington (OL/DL, 6-4, 305) saw action on the offensive and defensive line at LSU from 2002-2005. He played in 41 games and recorded 21 tackles and one fumble recovery. He was one of the top defensive lineman in the state of Alabama in 2000 out of Central High School in Tuscaloosa.
Myers (K, 6-2, 195) kicked at Florida Atlantic from 2001-2004. He made 43-57 field goals with a long of 53. He also converted 101-107 extra points and finished his career with 230 points.
Dunbar (WR/DB, 6-1, 190) played in five games with Memphis and caught 10 passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns. He also recorded 10.0 tackles, one interception, three pass break ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He played in 20 games and recorded 15 tackles at the University of Louisville in 2003 and 2004.
To make room for the new players, the Vipers released WR/LB Johnny Anderson, OS Terrence Jefferson, FB/LB Jermaine Blakely and FB/LB Eric Knott. They also placed WR/DB Henry Freeman on short-term injured reserve with a finger injury and placed OL/DL Kendrick Rogers on long-term injured reserve with a back injury.
