Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) – Buffalo Destroyers OS Lamont Cooper's status for tomorrow tonight's game vs. Toronto is still up in the air. Cooper is on the road to recovery after missing last week's game with a bleeding ulcer.

Cooper was admitted to the hospital late last Friday night after collapsing in his apartment and losing a significant amount of blood. He remained in the hospital while his team defeated the Detroit Fury 49-21 Saturday night. Cooper had some tests performed on Sunday and was released from the hospital on Monday.

Cooper attended the Destroyers practice on Tuesday but was in street clothes watching from the sidelines with his wife and young son.

Cooper ran some drills in practice on Thursday and participated in the team' s walk-thru this afternoon.

Dr. John Leddy, a Destroyers team doctor from UB Sports Medicine, has monitored Cooper's blood level from the beginning. Dr. Leddy told coaches he would only let Cooper play if he felt it would not risk Cooper's long term health.

"I spoke with Dr. Leddy this afternoon and he said we will not know if Lamont is able to play until he has his blood test tomorrow," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "Lamont said he feels good but we will not make a decision until after we see the results of his blood test tomorrow afternoon."

Cooper (hopefully) and the Destroyers look to take a piece of first place tomorrow night hosting the Eastern Division leading Toronto Phantoms at 7:00PM at the HSBC Arena. Group and single game tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444.
