Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) - The Buffalo Destroyers look to grab a piece of first place in the Eastern Division Saturday night when they host the Toronto Phantoms at 7:00PM at the HSBC in the Border War. The Phantoms (3-1) are one game ahead of the Destroyers (2-2) in the division.

"This is a huge game for us," said Destroyers head coach and general manager Ray Bentley. "Not only are they a division rival but they are in first place and this game can determine what's going to happen for the balance of the season."

The Toronto Phantoms are sixth in the Arena Football League in total offense (292.8 yards per game) featuring former University at Buffalo product QB Chad Salisbury.

"Salisbury takes a lot of chances with the football, but he has the confidence in his receivers to make plays. Our defense has to come up with the football like we did last week."

The Destroyers jumped to fifth in the AFL in scoring defense (47.8 points per game) after allowing a team record low 21 points vs. Detroit last week. The fleet also caused five turnovers (three interceptions and two fumbles) including a fumble that was recovered in the end zone for a Destroyers touchdown.

OS Lamont Cooper is listed as questionable for the game while he recovers from a bleeding ulcer. Cooper gets blood test everyday to monitor his recovery and Coach Bentley isn't sure if Cooper will play.

"We really don't know what will happen," Bentley added. "Lamont feels good, he practiced yesterday and he is getting himself prepared. The most important thing is his long term health. If he can go, he'll go, but we will not risk his health if he is not ready to play."

Tomorrow's game will be broadcast on WNSA 107.7 FM and WJTN 1240 AM. Single game and group tickets are still available. Call 881-4444.
