
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Signs Casey DeSmith

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed goalie Casey DeSmith to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season.
DeSmith returns to the Penguins organization after an impressive showing between the pipes as a rookie in the Calder Cup Playoffs with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The University of New Hampshire product posted a .919 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average in nine postseason contests, and set the club's all-time record for saves in a single playoff game by turning aside 59 shots in a series-clinching win against the Providence Bruins on Apr. 23, 2016.
During the regular season, the Rochester, N.H. native played in six games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and put up a .925 save percentage, 1.94 goals against average and 2-2-0-0 record. DeSmith earned his first AHL win in his first career start on Jan. 3, 2016 at Hartford.
DeSmith, 24, also appeared in 13 games with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) last year. The rookie posted a 2.55 goals against average, .915 save percentage, and a 5-2-0-2 record in that time.
A combined stat line of DeSmith's regular season and playoff figures from his rookie season comes out with a .918 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average in 28 total games.
