Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers have been assigned four additional players to their 2003 training camp roster by the arenafootball2 league office.

Offensive/defensive linemen Garry Reynolds and Gary Carruthers, both of whom played for Bucknell University, are two of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's recent acquisitions.

"We are very pleased to have both of these guys," said Pioneers Head Coach Dean Cokinos. "Garry Reynolds is very talented and has an extraordinary ability to block with his 'big' body. Gary Carruthers is a tenacious defensive player and was one of the top linemen in the Patriot League."

The Pioneers were also assigned wide receiver/defensive back Leone Clarke, who played collegiate ball at Southern Connecticut. "Leone is a very versatile player who can excel at multiple positions," said Cokinos.

Also added to the training camp roster was fullback/linebacker Russell Benditt. Benditt appeared in six games for the now-defunct Roanoke Steam in 2002, where he had six carries for 22 yards and three touchdowns.

"Russell is an old-school, blue-collar competitor. He is exactly what we're looking for," said Cokinos. With the most recent additions, the Pioneers now have 24 players officially assigned for training camp. Coach Cokinos will continue to evaluate and add talent to the roster between now and the start of camp, scheduled for March 19th.

The Pioneers 2003 home opener will take place Friday, April 11th against the Mohegan Wolves. Anyone interested in season, group, or individual game tickets may contact the team's ticketing office at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848.
