Fort Worth Cats News Release
Cats starter Aaron Wilkerson shut down the Colts again Wednesday night, this time striking out eleven in a 4-1 victory in San Angelo.
The Fort Worth Cats (30-16) scored a run in each of the first three innings and never let the Colts offense get going.
Fort Worth tallied three consecutive hits as first baseman David Bergin singled to bring Aljay Davis home.
In the second inning, Cats centerfielder Cody Bishop had a single with two outs in the inning to tally the second run of the game.
The following inning, the Cats took a 3-0 lead after Chris Ellison drove in Daniel Meeley.
The San Angelo Colts (23-23) now sit at a .500 record after only pushing across five hits. Aaron Wilkerson (6-1) struck out eleven Colts batters in seven full innings, while only walking one and giving up one run. It was the second straight start against the Colts, as Wilkerson only gave up one run in seven innings in both matchups.
Cats reliever Wes Alsup finished the game without allowing a single hit and striking out three.
David Bergin went two-for-three on the night, raising his batting average to .295. Bergin was at .255 only 10 days ago, but patient and efficient hitting has helped him raise his average over this month.
San Angelo will host the Cats for two more days, as game three begins tomorrow at 7:05.
The Cats return to Fort Worth on July 17 to begin an 8-game homestand. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
