San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- Fort Worth Cats' starting pitcher Aaron Wilkerson befuddled San Angelo Colts' hitters, and led his team to a 4-1 win Wednesday night at Foster Field.
Wilkerson (6-1) gave up a run on five hits and had a season-high 11 strikeouts through seven innings for the win. Wilkerson is the first pitcher in the United League to six victories.
The rookie righthander had six strikeouts after three innings, and eight after five. Wilkerson also recorded three perfect innings.
Fort Worth scored a run in each of the first three innings, giving Wilkerson an early lead. Second baseman Aljay Davis, third baseman Greg Bachman, and designated hitter Daniel Meeley all scored in that time.
The Colts scored their only run in the bottom of the third. Shortstop Danny Hernandez hit a one-out single, stole second, and then scored on second baseman Jon Dziomba's RBI double. Dziomba went 2-for-4 on the night.
After surrendering three early runs, Colts' starter Corey Frerichs dominated in the middle innings. He retired 13 Cats in a row from the end of the third through the seventh. Frerichs allowed one more run in the eighth before exiting the game.
Frerichs (4-4) took the loss, despite allowing just four runs on eight hits in as many innings.
The win improves Fort Worth to 30-16, while the loss drops San Angelo back to .500 at 23-23. This series continues with game three Thursday night. It will be a Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Miller Lite.
Fans 21 and over can enjoy $1 draught beer and $2 bottles all night long, courtesy of Miller Lite. There will also be live music after the game. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
