CLOQUET, MN - The Minnesota Wilderness is pleased to announce team captain Ryan Nelson has committed to play for the Iowa State Cyclones at the Division I level in the ACHA.

Nelson, a local CEC Lumberjack Alum from Esko, has played in over 100 games during his three-season career with the Wilderness. During the 19-20 season, Nelson was named as the team captain and put up over 20 points on defense.

Head Coach Jon Vaillancourt commented on Nelson's commitment, "I believe I speak for the entire program in expressing my excitement for Ryan to be continuing his education and collegiate career at Iowa State University. Not only is Ryan attending one of the best engineering programs in the county, but he will be playing for a prestigious hockey program.

Ryan will have an immense impact on Iowa's blue line not only offensively but in leadership and character. He was an outstanding captain for our program with what he was able to accomplish on the ice and his ability to interact and connect with our fans in the community. Ryan has excelled in representing what it means to be a Wilderness player to the highest standards through his excellence in performance and leadership. I look forward to watching his continued success next season! "

Nelson will attend ISU in the fall of 2020. The Minnesota Wilderness is a Tier II Junior Hockey Team in the North American Hockey League (NAHL), based in Cloquet, Mn.
