BEAUMONT, TX (August 10, 2005) - Texas Wildcatters Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Tony MacAulay announced today the team has signed veteran center Matt Turek to a contract for the 2005-06 season. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Turek, 32, joins the Wildcatters after spending last season with the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the Central Hockey League where he led the team in assists with 42 and finished second in scoring with 56 points in 60 games. The 5-foot, 11-inch, 194-pounder from Toronto, Ontario is a veteran of the ECHL, having spent five of his nine professional seasons in the league. Turek's best professional season came in 1999-2000 with the WPHL's Alexandria Warthogs when he scored 80 points (26g, 54a) in 71 games. In his career, Turek has five seasons with 20 or more goals and 50 or more points.

"Matt is a huge addition in terms of our off-season acquisitions," said MacAulay. "His attitude and enthusiasm will be what our team needs to be a spark everyday for the club. He has been consistent throughout his entire career and his leadership qualities are second to none in the ECHL. For this reason, Matt will be relied upon in key situations. Having Matt Turek in a Wildcatters jersey makes us a better team."

"I look forward to the opportunity and the challenge that Texas has to offer," stated Turek. "I know that Beaumont is a terrific place and I look forward to being part of the turnaround this season will bring. Hiring Tony was a huge step in the right direction for the hockey club and he is a major factor in my decision in coming to Beaumont. I am excited to be a piece of the puzzle that Tony is putting together for the upcoming season."
