Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

Hidalgo, Texas - The Wildcats swatted aside the Killer Bees, 3-1, on Sunday to finish the weekend sweep and move into first place in the North American Hockey League's South Division.

Chase Munroe made 33 saves to earn the win, while Jordan Jancze had a goal and an assist. Max Reisinger and Will Vosejpka also scored for Wichita Falls in the win.

In the first period, Rio Grande Valley controlled the play, outshooting the Wildcats 13-3 in the frame, but Munroe turned aside everything thrown towards his net. Wichita Falls almost took the lead late in the opening stanza when Josh Haverstrom and Kyle Bauman combined on a neat passing play in the offensive zone, but Haverstrom could not get a shot away as time expired.

The Wildcats continued to show their defensive resolve in the second period and eventually took the lead through two goals in the span of less than three minutes.

Vosejpka got the first goal after a well-executed odd-man rush with Colin Staub and Kyle Bauman. Staub dished to Bauman at the offensive blue line, who stick-handled his way to the front of the net before feeding Vosejpka to tuck home at the left post for his second goal of the year.

Next, it was Jancze who scored after another odd-man rush, this time with the Wildcats shorthanded. Tyler Ledford grabbed a loose puck off a defensive-zone faceoff and raced up ice, passing to Jancze who buried it from the left faceoff circle to make it 2-0. It was his third goal in the last two games.

Rio Grande Valley pulled within one midway through the third period after Evan Schmidbauer pulled the puck off the left-wing wall and beat Munroe on the top shelf.

But the Wildcats responded soon after, as Max Reisinger skated the puck along the right-wing wall, cut inside at the top of the circles and unleashed a laser that beat Kalkaja blocker side at 14:34 of the third. Stan Sojka and Jancze received credit for the assists, with the helper marking Sojka's first point as a member of the Wildcats.

Wichita Falls will return to the ice on Friday, Oct. 4 when the Amarillo Bulls make their way to Kay Yeager Coliseum. The first 250 fans in the door will receive Wildcat rally towels, courtesy of Coca-Cola. Fans that cannot make it to the game can catch all the action on FASThockey.com.
