Wildcats Re-assigned Eaton and Suggs, Add Four More

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Cape Fear Wildcats arenafootball2 team has been assigned six players by the arenafootball2 league office for the 2004 season.

Returning to the Wildcats from last year's Atlantic Division championship team are quarterback Jake Eaton and wide receiver/defensive back Kelvin Suggs. Eaton, 6-2 225, threw for 120-yards and three touchdowns in three games last season. Eaton played four seasons with the University of Maine. He completed 569 passes for 7,145-yards and 58 touchdowns; he also rushed for 909-yards and 19 touchdowns in 40 games with the Black Bears. Suggs, 6-1 190, a three year af2 veteran had 29 tackles, two interceptions and one interception returned for a score in eight games with the Wildcats.

Also joining the Wildcats are quarterbacks Brian Baker and Chris Thompson. Baker joins the Wildcats by way of Austin Peay State University. The 6-5, 235 pounder was a two time All-American and holds 15 APSU football records. In four seasons with the Governors, Baker threw for 5,587-yards and 48 touchdowns. Thompson, 5-11 190, played four seasons with Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. In his senior season, Thompson led Bloomsburg to a 9-2 (6-0 PSAC) record and earned 1st team All-PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference).

The Wildcats have also been assigned FB/LB Derrick Lloyd and offensive specialist Ryan Soule. In three seasons with James Madison University, Lloyd, 6-2 242, totaled 320 tackles (192 solo), 9.5 sacks and seven fumble recoveries. In his senior season he had 157 tackles, led all Division I-AA with 94 solo tackles, totaled nine double-digit tackle performances and had a career high 23 tackles in one game. He was honored with the Buck Buchanan Award as the Most Outstanding Defensive player in Division I-AA and Atlantic 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Soule, 5-10 190, played four seasons with Hartwick College (N.Y.). In 2002 he had 76 receptions for 1,550-yards, 20 touchdowns and was named to five All-America teams. He finished his college career with 3,358-yards on 179 receptions and 39 touchdowns; also had 95 kick returns for 2,057-yards and holds the Division III record for all time kick off returns for touchdowns with seven.

The 2002-2003 Atlantic Division champions will begin their third season in arenafootball2 when the 2004 season kicks off in April. Season tickets are on sale now and start as low as $108 per seat.
