Bakersfield Blitz News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Blitz have announced that Bakersfield native Brett Clark will serve as the team's offensive and defensive line coach.

Clark, 26, is a native of Bakersfield, who returns to his hometown after playing in the AFL and af2 over the past four seasons. He spent two years at center and nose guard for the Los Angeles Avengers in the AFL in 2000 and 2001. In 2002, he played with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers and he spent the following campaign with the Cape Fear Wildcats.

A graduate of Bakersfield High in 1995, Clark played center and defensive line on the Drillers Central Valley Championship team during his senior year in 1994. He went on to play two seasons at center with Bakersfield College in 1995 and 1996, after which he transferred to Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During his senior season, Southern University won a Black College National Title, going 11-1 in 1997.

"I'm happy to be back here in Bakersfield," Clark says. "I've always wanted to get into coaching and I'm thrilled that the Blitz have given me the opportunity to further my career here at home."

"We got the next best thing to having Brett Clark play," said Head Coach Rick Van Horne. "He's been around the league and he knows the ins and outs of the game; he's going to bring some great experience to our young club. It's great to find this kind of quality person right here in our backyard."

Clark also has coaching experience in both football and wrestling. In 1998, prior to graduating from Southern, Clark was an assistant coach. More recently, he served as a wrestling coach in 2003 at Bakersfield College, for a team that won the California State Junior College Championship. Clark is a wrestler as well, while he was taking additional classes at BC, having placed second in the state in 2001 and winning the state heavyweight championship in 2002.
