Wildcats ink four returnees, add two more

ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats have been assigned by the arenafootball2 league quarterback Bryan Snyder, wide receiver/linebacker Chris McKinney, defensive specialist Larry Sutton, kicker Wes Virgilio, offensive/defensive lineman Larry Brown and quarterback Alex Neist.

“These players are very solid,” said Wildcats head coach Chris Siegfried. “We have veterans that have the ability to guide us to a championship and rookies that I expect to make an immediate impact.” Siegfried added, “We are lucky to get these guys on board with us for the 2005 season.”

Snyder (6-1, 205 pounds), was a member of the Wildcats in 2003. In 16 games with the ‘Cats, Snyder was 334-of-477 for 3,659-yards and 60 touchdowns. He holds the Wildcats single season record for passing yards (3,659) and passing touchdowns (60). The six-year veteran has thrown for 11,647-yards and 210 touchdowns. In 2000, Snyder guided the Tennessee Valley Vipers to the ArenaCup championship with career highs in passing yards (3,838) and passing touchdowns (61).

McKinney, (6-2, 205 pounds), returns for his second season with the Wildcats. Last season, McKinney caught 46 passes for 519-yards and 15 touchdowns including a 43-yard kickoff return for a score. On defense, he totaled 64 tackles (23 solo), an interception and six pass deflections. McKinney played college football at Guilford College (Greensboro, NC) where he was the first four-time all-league football selection since 1997. In four seasons with the Quakers, he recorded 163 receptions for 2,156-yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had 100 punt returns for 1,164-yards and five touchdowns. He ended his college career with Old Dominion Athletic Conference and Guilford records for punt returns (100), punt return yardage (1,164) and punt returns for a touchdown (5).

Sutton (5-10, 180 pounds), a defensive specialist, returns for his third season with the Wildcats. Sutton has totaled 32 tackles (16 solo) and 10 pass break-ups in seven games with the Wildcats.

Virgilio (5-10, 180 pounds), enters his fifth season in arenafootball and second with the Wildcats. In 2004, Virgilio saw action in eight games with the Wildcats and made four field goals and connected on 70 percent of his extra point attempts. In 2003 he appeared in three games with the Memphis Xplorers. During 2002, Virgilio played in 10 games with the Greensboro Prowlers and in 2001, he played in two games with the Florida Firecats. In his career he has converted 77-of-123 PATs and made eight field goals.

Brown, (6-2, 300 pounds), joins the Wildcats by way of the University of Central Florida. In four seasons with the Golden Knights, Brown totaled 128 tackles (63 solo) and eight sacks. In his senior season he had 33 tackles (17 solo) and two sacks.

Neist, (6-1, 205 pounds), enters his first arenafootball2 season after spending last season in the NIFL (National Indoor Football League). In 2004, Neist was 151-of-270 for 1,800-yards and 43 touchdowns in 14 games with the Tri-City Diesel. He averaged 128-passing yards per game and completed 56% of his passes.

The Wildcats are entering their fourth season in the arena football league and their first in Albany, Georgia. The Wildcats will kickoff the 2005 season against in-state rival Macon Knights on April 9th at the Albany Civic Center. Wildcats season tickets are now on sale starting at just $70.
