Wildcats add Oklahoma Sooner and Georgia Bulldog standouts to roster

ALBANY, GA- The South Georgia Wildcats have signed wide receiver/defensive back Antwone Savage and wide receiver/ defensive back Damien Gary for the 2005 season.

Savage, (5-11, 183 pounds), an Albany native and Westover High School standout finished his college career at Oklahoma as the school's second all-time receiver.

Savage totaled 157 receptions for 2,009-yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2002, he had 35 catches for 438-yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 316-yards and earned second team All-Big 12 Conference honors as a kickoff returner. Savage led the Sooners receivers with 34 receptions for 446-yards and five touchdowns in 2001 and was voted first team All-Big 12 Conference by the Fortworth Star-Telegram. As a sophomore, Savage led the Sooners with 50 catches for 621-yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 160-yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.

As a senior at Westover High School, Savage totaled 2,099-yards as he spent time as a quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback. He threw for 1,230-yards and 10 touchdowns and rushed for 869-yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 26 tackles.

"Antwone is a player that brings Big 12 championship experience to our team," said Wildcats Head Coach Chris Siegfried. "I expect big things from a big time player like Antwone Savage."

Gary, (5-11, 186 pounds), was a three year letterman for the Georgia Bulldogs. He ended his college career ranked second in SEC history in punt return average (11.0-yards), third in career punt return yards (1,253-yards) and fifth in career punt returns (114). His 131 receptions ranked fourth best in Bulldogs' history. Gary totaled 131 receptions for 1,652-yards and 11 touchdowns in 45 games with the Bulldogs. In 2002, Gary was a member of the team that won Georgia's first SEC championship in 20 years and defeated Florida State for the Nokia Sugar Bowl title. Gary earned Phillips/Regions Bank pre-season All-SEC first team in 2001 and ended the season with 25 receptions for 352-yards and was second in the SEC with 12.5 yards per punt return. As a freshman, Gary finished as the team's second leading receiver with 36 catches for 552-yards and five touchdowns. He was named to the Knoxville News Sentinel All-SEC freshman team.

"He had a very productive career in arguably the best conference in college football," stated Siegfried. "I believe Damien and Antwone will be dominating receivers in this league."

The Wildcats are entering their fourth season in the arena football league and their first in Albany, Georgia.
