Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild are partnering with the Wenatchee Valley Medical Center and Wellness Place to sponsor a marrow screening drive at the Town Toyota Center Saturday to help find a donor for goaltender Greg Lewis' 25-year-old brother, Matt, who is battling leukemia for the third time in his life.
Matt is currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy treatments and multiple blood and platelet transfusions, and he will also need a marrow transplant in the future. Greg has donated marrow to Matt in the past, but doctors will not allow him to do so again. Therefore, Matt must find another donor.
The marrow screening drive for Matt will take place at the Town Toyota Center Saturday. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to be tested, and the drive will continue through the end of the Wild's game against the Dawson Creek Rage.
Marrow testing is simple and painless. Those who wish to be tested must be healthy and between the ages of 18 and 60. A registration form for "Be the Match", which is the national registry for marrow donors, must also be completed. Noninvasive testing is done through a cheek swab.
Registration forms for "Be the Match" are available at the Wild office and can be downloaded by logging on to wild-in-the-community/matt-lewis-drive. Forms will also be available at the drive Saturday.
To further assist Matt, Wellness Place will donate proceeds from Saturday's 50/50 drawing and Chuck-a-Puck to the Lewis family. Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday's game by: calling 509-888-PUCK (7825), visiting the Town Toyota Center Box Office or logging on to http://tickets.wenatcheewild.com/.
