Wild Wins At Aberdeen

Aberdeen, SD. - The Wenatchee Wild rode a three-goal first period to an impressive 4-2 win over the Aberdeen Wings Friday night, before 1,197 fans in Aberdeen.

The Wild opened the scoring in the first period as Gadel Gumerov (Nizhnekamsk, Russia) found the net, assisted by Nicholas Rivera (Pacifica Palisades, California) at 5:58 for a 1-0 Wenatchee lead. Tanner Barnes (Burnsville, Minnesota) would make it 2-0 not quite 10 minutes later, with an unassisted goal at 15:31. The Wild lead would grow to 3-0 just over two minutes later, as Rivera scored from Chris Jones (Normandy Park, Washington) and Mike Coyne (Kenmore, New York) at 17:43, giving Wenatchee a solid lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the Wings would crawl to within one, as Kyle Haak scored a pair of goals, the first from Jonathan Grebosky at 10:16, and the second from Matt Brettingen and TJ Roo at 15:02, cutting the Wenatchee lead to 3-2 after two periods.

The Wild would add an insurance goal early in the third period, as Barnes notched his second of the game, assisted by Matthew Nuttle (Marilla, New York) at 3:48. Wenatchee would hold on from there, taking the game by a score of 4-2. "Nice to start off this roadie with a win" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "Good effort. Big challenge to back it up tomorrow against a good, well-coached team."

The Wild outshot Aberdeen 33-31. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) made 29 saves for Wenatchee; Henry Dill had 29 stops for the Wings. The Wild was 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-of-2 on the penalty kill.

Wenatchee is now 14-11-3, Aberdeen is 15-10-2.

The Wild wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of games at Minot on Friday and Saturday, December 20th and 21st, then returns home for a pair of games against Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday, January 3rd and 4th.
