Aberdeen, SD. - A late third period goal was the difference Saturday night, as the Aberdeen Wings slipped past the Wenatchee Wild 3-2, before 1,579 fans in Aberdeen.
The Wild took the lead with a Sam Becker (Roseville, Minnesota) goal at 17:16 of the opening period. Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota and Trey Bradley (Tampa, Florida) assisted, putting Wenatchee up 1-0 after one.
In the second, the Wings tied the score 1-1, as Zach Doerning scored from Jake Horton and Erik Gollenbeck at 2:50. However, the Wild would regain the lead on Becker's second goal of the night. Bradley drew the lone assist at 11:49, putting Wenatchee on top 2-1 after two.
Kyle Haak's power play goal for Aberdeen, assisted by Erik Baskin and Jonathan Grebosky at 3:18 tied the game 2-2. Then, when it appeared the game might be headed to overtime, TJ Roo scored for the Wings from Jordan Heller and Tanner Okeson at 18:02, riding that goal to the 3-2 win. "Played well for the most part" said Wenatchee Wild Head Coach Bliss Littler. "We're just not mature enough to handle success on the road one night, then back it up the next. It will come."
The Wild outshot Aberdeen 28-24. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) had 21 saves for Wenatchee; Henry Dill made 26 stops for the Wings. The Wild was 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-of-3 on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 14-12-3, Aberdeen is 16-10-2.
The Wild wraps up the pre-Christmas schedule with a pair of games at Minot on Friday and Saturday, December 20th and 21st, then returns home for a pair of games against Fairbanks on Friday and Saturday, January 3rd and 4th.
