Wenatchee Wild News Release

Johnstown, PA. - A quick start and strong third period goaltending were the keys Friday night, as the Wenatchee Wild beat the Johnstown Tomahawks 3-1, before 2,010 fans at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

The Wild took the early lead, as Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, British Columbia), doing yeoman's work behind the net, threw it out in front to Trace Redmond (Dallas, Texas), who one-timed the pass into the goal for his 7th counter of the season at 3:11 of the first period. Noah Nelson (Oconomowoc, Wisconsin) drew the second assist on the goal that put Wenatchee up 1-0. A Max McHugh (Edgewood, Washington) shot deflected off a stick and into the net from a sharp angle at 12:00 of the first, for his 16th goal of the season. Jono Davis (La Verne, California) and Jacob Barber (Dardenne Praire, Missouri) drew the assists, putting the Wild up 2-0.

A shorthanded goal from Mitch Hall, assisted by Cody Gylling at 53 seconds of the second period brought Johnstown back into the game, slicing the Wenatchee lead to 2-1. Just past the midway point of the period, Joe Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nevada) spun out of the left corner and fired a wrister stick side for his 14th goal of the year. Josh Hartley (Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Trevor Stewart (East Wenatchee, Washington) assisted at 10:29, restoring the two-goal advantage with a 3-1 Wild lead.

The two teams battled throughout a scoreless third period, but despite some intense pressure, Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) stood tall, stopping everything thrown his way, enabling Wenatchee to hold on for the 3-1 win.

Johnstown outshot the Wild 23-22. Nichols made 22 saves for Wenatchee and Chris Truehl had 19 stops for the Tomahawks. Neither team scored on the power play, the Wild in 6 chances with a shorthanded goal against, Johnstown in 5 chances. With the win, Wenatchee improves to 34-7-4 on the year, including a league-best 16-2-1 on the road. The Tomahawks slip to 22-17-10.

The Wild have one more game at Johnstown, tomorrow night, February 16th (4:00pm), then move on to Jamestown, NY for games Friday and Saturday, February 22nd (4:00pm) and 23rd (2:00pm).
