
Blizzard Gear up for Top Prospects

The Brookings Blizzard will be well represented at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Troy, Michigan next week. Along with the four players selected to the play for team Dakota, head coach Cory Laylin will coach the U18 Selects team and Blizzard Forward Eric Brenk will play for the U18 Selects. Laylin and Brend will join Drew Brevig, Jared Docken, Justin Moody, and Thomas Williams who will play for team Dakota team during the three-day tournament.
In a very short period of time, the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament has become one of the most highly scouted events of its kind. Last season, over 160 scouts attended the event, which featured almost every NHL team and NCAA Division I school. Over a third of the players that competed in last year's event ended up with an NCAA Division I opportunity. (www.nahltopropspects.com)
Laylin will coach along side Jason Spence of the Johnstown Tomahawks. The U18 Selects team is made up of players from across the 24 team league born in or after 1994. In his first season with the Blizzard, Laylin has lead the team to a record of 26-15-4 and a tie for second place in the Central Division.
Eric Brenk (18, Moorhead, MN) has played in all 45 games for the Blizzard this season. He is second in the team in points with 35, and second on the team in scoring with 18. Brenk also has 17 assists on the season and is +13 on the year.
The Dakota roster is comprised of player from Aberdeen, Austin, Bismarck, Brookings, and Minot. Players selected from the Coulee Region Chill will compete for the Midwest team.
Austin Bruins Head Coach Chris Tok and Bismarck Bobcats Coach Layne Sedevie will coach the team. Tok and Sedevie were selected to coach the team because their teams finished the first half of the season one-two in the Central Division. Four Blizzard players were selected to team Dakota.
Drew Brevig (20) is a 6'2", 200lb. defenseman from Lakeville, MN who has 8 goals and 21 assists in 38 games for the Blizzard this season. He leads all defensive players with 29 points. In the last 13 games he has recorded 12 points and four goals.
Jared Docken (20, Northfield, MN) has played in 34 games for the Blizzard this season after starting the year with the Odessa Jackalopes. He recently took an official visit to the Air Force Academy and is an impressive +12 with the team this season.
Justin Moody (20, Grand Forks, ND) is in his second full season with the Blizzard. In 40 games this year he is third on the team in points, with 33, and is tied for first on the team with 21 assists.
Thomas Williams is playing his third season with the Blizzard and his second as team captain. In 45 games this season, Williams leads the team in points, 44, and leads the team in goals, 24.
