Wenatchee Wild News Release
Fairbanks, AK. - The Wenatchee Wild opened up a three-game set against arch-rival Fairbanks Thursday night and rode a pair of second period power play goals to a 4-2 win over the Ice Dogs at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
Fairbanks opened the scoring with Hans Gorowsky lighting the lamp. Duggie Lagrone and Willie Brooks assisted at 4:10, giving the Ice Dogs a 1-0 lead. Wenatchee tied the game, by banking one in off a defenseman. Omar Mullan (Dearborn, Michigan) got credit for the goal, with Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) drawing the lone assist at 12:36, tying the game 1-1.
Parker Tuomie (Biemerhaven, Germany) came out firing in the second period, scoring a pair of power play goals in the early going. The first, coming at 54 seconds, was scored on a rebound and was assisted by Alex Bontje (Nobleton, Ontario) and Brendan Harris (Las Vegas, Nevada). The second, a sharp angle shot from near the right wing circle, was assisted by Mitch Demario (Franklin, Wisconsin) and came at 1:57, giving the Wild a 3-1 lead. Jakob Ahlgren (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) scored off a turnover, snapping a wrist shot from the top of the right wing circle. The unassisted goal, at 9:55, stretched the Wenatchee lead to 4-1.
Fairbanks cut into the deficit just shy of the four minute mark of the third period, as Johnny Mueller scored from Nick Hinz at 3:34, slicing the Wild lead to 4-2. The Ice Dogs would pull the goalie late but Wenatchee stayed strong in their end, finishing out the 4-2 win.
Fairbanks outshot the Wild 34-18 on the night. Gustaf Johansson (Uppsala, Sweden) made 32 saves, while Patrick Munson and Kevin Aldridge combined to make 14 saves for the Ice Dogs. Wenatchee was 2-for-5 on the power play and 3-of-3 on the penalty kill.
Wenatchee is now 18-16-3; Fairbanks is 27-12-0.
