Amarillo Bulls News Release
WICHITA FALLS, TX - Scoring early helped the Amarillo Bulls secure their 28 th win of the season on Friday night.
Two goals in the first five minutes of the game and another two early in the second lifted the Bulls to a 4-3 triumph over the Wichita Falls Wildcats at Kay Yeager Coliseum. The Bulls were able to maintain their 10 point lead over the Topeka RoadRunners for first place in the South Division. The victory was the Bulls eight in a row and extended their point streak to nine.
Brendan McGuire, Cody Gylling, Mike Davis each had a goal and an assist for the Bulls. Forward Mitchell McPherson also tallied a goal. Goaltender Paul Berrafato stopped 32 of 35 shots to post the win in goal.
The Bulls were buzzing right off the opening face-off and it wasn't long before they found the back of the net.
Mitchell McPherson scored at the 4:23 mark on a great shot from the face-off dot from Ryan Stevens and Dean Rhymer. Twenty three seconds later, Cody Gylling buried a feed from Brendan McGuire to make it 2-0. The Bulls outshot and out-chanced the Wildcats in the first 10 minutes. Wichita Falls came on in the last five minutes and netted a late power play goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls 12-9 in the first stanza.
Another fast start in the second produced two more Bulls' goals. Brendan McGuire notched his fourth goal of the season when he tipped a pass from Cody Gylling into the top of the net. Mike Davis got an assist on the play. Less than two minutes later, Mike Davis banged home a rebound in front of the net from Brady Ferguson and Joe Grabowski. Midway through the stanza, the Wildcats cut the deficit to two when they converted on a five-on-three power play. The Bulls outshot Wichita Falls 10-9 in the second.
The Bulls dominated much of the first half the third period but couldn't push a fifth goal past goaltender David Zevnik. The game got interesting in the final eight minutes after the Wildcats pulled to within a goal. Wichita Falls pulled their goaltender in the final minute looking for the equalizer and their best chance came off a partial breakaway, but the shot was fired high and wide.
