Wild Win 4-3 over Jackalopes to Salvage Split

September 29, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wenatchee Wild News Release

After a hard fought battle between the Jackalopes, the Wenatchee Wild can walk away from the weekend with a 1-1 record for the series and a 2-1-1 record for home games. Last night, the Wild played an excellent game by putting their main focus on beating Jackalopes goaltender Robin Johansson and playing as physically as possible. The Wild started to warm things up in the game throughout the end of the first period and into the second but once that second period and the last period got underway, they were on fire. Everyone on the team had their designated role on the ice and every skater played that role exemplary. Someone was always working the boards, someone was always working the open ice, someone was always keeping tabs on the enforcers of the Jackalopes, someone was always fighting for the puck, and someone was always there to get the biscuit in the basket. They worked like a very well oiled machine and knew that they were going to walk away from this game with a win in the record books. The final was a 4-3 win for Wenatchee and I think this will be a kick starter for the rest of the season to come out strong, aggressive, and with the mindset that they are going to take home the "W" every time they step on the ice.

Just as Friday's game had gone, there was no scoring in the first period.

Odessa started the scoring in this game when #17 Alex Alger put the biscuit in the basket unassisted at 9:32. Kenny Hausinger got the second goal of the game for Odessa 15 minutes and 7 seconds into the period. He had assists from #25 Chad Guderian and #14 Andrew McLean. Wenatchee responded to this goal at 16:37 when Jacob Liljeroos put one past Johansson with the help of Mike Coyne.

There were 3 Wenatchee goals in the last period, the first coming from the stick of Mitch Demario only 3 minutes and 1 second into the last frame. He had help from #15 Andre Pison. Jake Ahlgren brought the score up to 3-2 for the Wild with a goal at 12:55. The assist went to Dan Bailey. Odessa's Hampus Sjodahl scored the Jackalopes' last point of the night with a power play goal at 14:59. #5 Jake Hamilton and #20 Leo Lumm were credited with assists. Wenatchee's Ryan Chiasson scored the game winner at 19:12 with the help of Wild leading scorers Jake Ahlgren and Mitch Demario.

The Wild took 5 penalties during this match up and they included Slashing (Jacob Liljeroos), Delay of Game (David Powlowski), Checking From Behind (Lukas Hedtke), Roughing (Colin Burston), and Interference (Colin Burston).

Ploszaj was in goal for the Wild and he was able to record 21 saves out of 24 shots on goal. The Stars of the Game were: 1. Ryan Chiasson -WEN 2. Jake Ahlgren - WEN 3. Mitch Demario -WEN

"Nice effort tonight. It took a while to get to their goaltender. He was a difference maker for them both nights. I was glad to see us get to him. We had good leadership on the bench," stated Coach Littler after the 4-3 victory.

The next games the Wild will play will be a 2 game series against the IceRays in Corpus Christi, Texas on October 3rd and 4th. Both games will be played at 5:05 pm PST in the AmericanBank Center. If you can, support your Wild!
