Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, are joining forces with Sports Clips, the official haircutter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), on Veterans Day November 11th.

Several players from the team, along with the Wild Thing mascot and some members of the front office staff will be on hand at Sports Clips located at Trinity Point in Washington from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Sports Clips is donating $1 dollar from each hair cut on the 11th to the VFW Operation Uplink, which is raising funds to connect military families around the world this holiday season.

"I think this is just a great thing," said Ross Vecchio, the Wild Things' general manager. "Our military are sacrificing so much for us, and this is a small way that we can say thank you for all you do. The Wild Things are proud to be a part of this!"

Sport Clips stores across the country began raising money in October and will continue through November 14 to support the VFW Operation Uplink. The program offers free call days and calling cards for deployed and hospitalized American soldiers.

The effort will include "The Biggest Haircut Day of the Year" on Veterans Day, when the franchise will donate a dollar for every haircut service given that day in its more than 600 stores. Donations for Operation Uplink will be collected through individual store events and on-line at SportClips.com in an effort to reach and exceed this year's goal of $125,000.

Centerfielder Chris Sidick, along with General Manager Ross Vecchio, and the Wild Thing, as well as others from the Wild Things' staff will be at the local Sports Clips to support the effort. The Wild Things encourage all their fans to join in this effort to support our Troops.
