Washington Wild Things News Release

The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, has made the week leading up to season opener a busy one in the way of personnel moves.

Two days after acquiring the services of first baseman Bill Greenwell, the Wild Things added OF Mike Arbinger from the Gary SouthShore RailCats for a player to be named later.

Arbinger, a 23-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder, helped Williamsport (A) to the New York-Penn League title in 2003. In 2002, he was named to the Gulf Coast All-Star Team while batting .327 with two home runs and 46 RBI for the CGL Pirates. In 100 games over two professional seasons, Arbinger has posted a career average of .296 and recorded 69 RBI.

Arbinger was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio University in 2002. He garnered second-team All America honors while batting .417 and belting a school-record 20 home runs. As a senior at Smart High School in Toledo in 1998, Arbinger was named Ohio Division I Player of the Year.

The Wild Things open the season at home on Friday, May 21 when they face the Kalamazoo Kings. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. As the Wild Things begin their third season, their theme is "Third Time's a Charm!" To drive that theme home, The Wild Things will offer FREE admission to any set of triplets who come to the home opener and all three year olds will be invited to throw out an honorary first pitch. Limited tickets are still available for the game.
