Washington Wild Things News Release
The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, swept a double header in Florence to capture their fiftieth win of the season. The Wild Things won the first game of the double header 4-3 and the second game of the night 5-3.
Brian Stoecklein started off the Wild Things scoring in game one with a solo homerun in the top of the first inning. Joel Buchenauer scored in the third inning following an error and again in the fifth after a Jack Headley triple. Also, in the fifth inning Bill Greenwell hit an RBI single to drive in Headley from third.
B.J. Borsa held off a Freedom rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn his seventieth save of the year.
Ryan Ewin was the winning pitcher in game one, pitching 5 and two-thirds innings and giving up only 5 hits. He is now 7-2 on the season.
Matt Bok got the Wild Thing started with solo homerun in the top of the second inning. Jon Cahill followed Bok with a single then later scored on a Joel Buchenauer double. L.J. Biernbaum scored in the fourth inning following a Jon Cahill double. Randy McGarvey followed Cahill with an RBI double. McGarvey came around to score following a Florence error.
Eric Holt pitched 5 innings and gave three runs on four hits to earn his fourth win of the season. Jim Popp pitched three scoreless innings in relief to pick up his fourth save of the year.
Washington is now 11-0 against Florence this season.
Washington will play another double header tomorrow against Florence. The Wild Things will send Matt Powell to the mound for the first game starting at 5:05 and Grant Dorn will take the hill for the second game starting approximately thirty minutes after game one.
