Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, PA – The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced several changes on the 2004 roster Wednesday.

Center fielder, Doug Garcia was traded to Windy City for a second round draft pick (#16 overall). "Doug will be reunited with Joe Charboneau, who is the Thunderbolts' hitting coach. This will give them an opportunity to work together again. We felt this was a great opportunity for Doug this season," said Ross Vecchio, general manager for the Wild Things.

In other news, Jeff Albert (IF), Orlando Cruz (OF), Matt Johnson (C), Matt Rollins (OF), Ryan Ellis (2B), Ben Ally (RHP) and Jason Kane (3B) will not return to play for the Wild Things in 2004.

"Obviously Ryan will still be with us in '04, but he'll be wearing his coaching cap," said Vecchio. "Ryan will be our hitting and infield coach."

Jason Kane has retired from playing baseball. "We had hoped to trade Jason to New Jersey of the Northeast League, so he could play closer to home," continued Vecchio. "But with his injuries and his new baseball school, he decided retirement made more sense."

Pitcher Ben Ally also announced his retirement. Ally, who was signed by the Astros from the Wild Things' organization in June 2002, returned to play for the Wild Things in 2003. He has been named pitching coach at Southeastern College in his native Lakeland, FL. Ally's wife, Courtney, serves as the assistant cheerleader coach at the school.

The Wild Things open the 2004 season at home on May 21st against the Kalamazoo Kings. Season tickets are on sale at the Wild Things office. Individual game day tickets go on sale April 24.
