MINOT, Minn. - The Wenatchee Wild scored three first-periodgoals Saturday and cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Minot Minotauros at theMaysa Arena in Minot, Minn.
The Wild swept their 2-game weekend series from theMinotauros with the win and improved to 6-0 on the season.
Nathan Flynn (Hastings,Minn.) scored Wenatchee's first goal 95 seconds into the first period on a shotfrom the slot. Jacob Barber (DardennePrairie, Mo.) set up the play from behind the Minot goal when he came up with aturnover and passed to Flynn, who was wide open in the slot. Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia)also assisted.
Jono Davis (LaVerne, Calif.) scored his first goal of the game 4:51 into the first stanzawhen he scored on a 5-hole shot moments after a delayed penalty was calledagainst Minot. Flynn was credited with the only assist on the goal for hissecond point of the period.
Davis struck again, this time from the inside bottom of thenear faceoff circle, during a Wild power play with 3:52 left in the firstframe. Josh Hartley (Coquitlam,Canada) and Chris Jones (NormandyPark, Wash.) assisted.
Max McHugh (Edgewood,Wash.) scored his second goal of the season with 7:28 remaining in the secondperiod when he knocked in a Blake Roubos(Niagara Falls, Canada) pass from right in the front of the cage. Trace Redmond (Dallas, Texas) wascredited with the second helper.
Barber notched his second point of the night 5:04 into thefinal period on a beautiful power-play goal. Barber scored on a one-timer fromthe slot on a picture-perfect pass from Kerr from the left circle to put theWild up, 5-0. Dillon Eichstadt (Bemidji,Minn.) also assisted.
Connor Langfield and Stephen Sherman each scored a goal forMinot later in the third period, but the Minotauros never really threatened theWild.
Wild goalie Evan McCarthy(Castle Rock, Col.) made 15 saves on 17 shots to earn his second win of theseason. Wenatchee blasted 40 shots at Minot goaltender Ben Myers, 35 of whichhe was able to stop. Wenatchee scored two power-play goals on six tries whileMinot went 0-for-2 on its man-advantages.
Davis led the Wild with two first-period goals. He currentlyleads his team in goals (6), points (12) and plus-minus rating (plus-10). Flynnand Barber each scored a goal and an assist Saturday, and Kerr recorded twoassists.
The Wild (6-0) will continue their long season-opening roadtrip next weekend (Sept. 28-29) when they take on the Bismarck Bobcats. Bothgames are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Fans can watch both games live for a smallfee by logging on to www.FASTHockey.com.
