Forward Boby Scores Three Times In Victory

September 22, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release

Sault Saint Marie, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings were led by Luc Boby, as he scored a hat trick, including his NAHL leading 7th goal of the season, as he lead his club to a 6-4 victory over the Soo Eagles on Saturday night in Sault Saint Marie.

Following the theme of the game between the two teams in the night before, the scoring was started early by the Soo Eagles. It only took them three minutes and 47 seconds of action for them to net the opening goal. Denver Pierce was able to tally the first goal of his NAHL career to make the score 1-0 early.

Just 13 seconds later, off the ensuing faceoff, Kalamazoo took the puck into the Soo zone, and Sean Campbell went down and notched his first of the season to tie the game at one.

Four minutes later, the Eagles' Roman Pfennings put in his first of the season to make the game 2-1.

With less than two minutes to play in the first period, the Eagles would register their third goal of the game. This time it was Alex Robert getting into the scoring mix with a wrist shot from the right-side point.

A minute and 28 seconds later, Kalamazoo's Boby took a sharp angle wrist shot from the left wing that beat Soo goalie, and former Jr. K-Wing, Zack Naagelvoort. The goal for Boby was his third in two games, and fifth on the season.

At the end of the first, Kalamazoo's starting goalie, Nick Stuart, was pulled in favor of Alex Okicki. Stuart had made 11 saves on fourteen first period shots.

A minute and 46 seconds into the second, Kalamazoo tied the contest on the second of the night, and team-leading sixth of the season by Boby. His breakaway tally early in the frame was his fourth marker in two games.

Half way through the final period, Boby capped off his hat trick with a wrist shot on a loose puck that was sitting in the slot area in front of Naagelvoort. The goal for Boby extended his team lead for goals with seven and put him in the lead amongst the entire NAHL.

Late in the period, the Jr. K-Wings took a two-goal lead on the second of the season by Taylor Burden. Burden entered the Soo zone and held the puck patiently, until he created space in between the circles to send it into the back of the goal.

Twenty seconds later, the Eagles pulled the game back within one when Mike Sabatini responded quickly with his first of the season.

Any attempt of a comeback by the Eagles was silenced with an empty net goal by Josh Dangel (3rd), who sealed the victory for the Jr. K-Wings with 35 seconds left.
