
Wild Knock off Ice Dogs in Shootout, 2-1

FAIRBANKS, Alaska. - TheWenatchee Wild defeated the West Division regular-season champion Fairbanks IceDogs in a shootout Friday at the Big Dipper Ice Arena, 2-1. The Wild (30-20-3)maintained second place in the West Division with the win.
JT Osborn broke a scoreless tie with 4:03 remaining in thesecond period when he tipped in Jack Callahan's shot from the far point. Brock Carlstonalso assisted. The score would remain 1-0 until Max McHugh (Edgewood, Wash.) sent the game to overtime with anextra-attacker goal with 38 seconds left in regulation. The goal, which was assistedby Michael Di Puma (Chicago, Ill.)and team captain D.J. Vandercook (FarmingtonHills, Mich.), was McHugh's sixth of the season and his first marker since herejoined the team last week during its Alaskan road trip.
The game ended in a shootout after a scoreless overtimesession. Osborn put Fairbanks in front in the shootout before Mario Puskarich (Fort Walton Beach,Fla.) tied up the session when he scored on his backhand off of a spinarama.Fairbanks' next shooter, Gabe Levin, then put his team back on top, only to seeVandercook force another tie on a glove-side rocket. The Wild's seventhshooter, Shawn Pauly (Bellingham,Wash.), then gave his club the win when he beat Joe Phillippi 5-hole.
Both goaltenders put on a show. Wild goalie Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, Minn.) made27 saves on 28 shots and denied 5-of-7 shooters in the shootout for his 22ndwin of the season. Phillippi made 32 saves on 33 shots and kept the Wild off ofthe scoreboard for 59 minutes and 22 seconds of regulation.
The Wild will face the Ice Dogs in the third annual outdoorgame Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (PST). The game will be the Wild's last of a 6-gameroad trip in Alaska.
