Traverse City North Stars News Release
CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - A pair of third period goals proved to be the difference between the Traverse City North Stars and St. Louis Bandits on Saturday evening, with the host Bandits claiming a 3-1 victory in the second of a three-game series at the Hardees Iceplex in suburban St. Louis.
The Bandits staked themselves to an early lead when Chris Ciotti bagged his team-leading 28th goal of the season 7:11 into the affair, but Alec Shields (Pittsburgh, PA/TC North Stars/Mercyhurst College) knotted the contest three minutes later. The teams traded scoring chances for the next 28 minutes before Ciotti and Cody Ganchar levied third period markers to make it a two-goal final.
Steve Bolton (Las Vegas, NV/Amarillo NAHL) stopped 26 shots but was tagged with his first loss in eight starts for the North Stars. Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) and Justin Scott (Detroit, MI/Fargo USHL) assisted on Shields' 18th of the season.
Traverse City fell to 34-16-1 and back into third place in the NAHL North Division standings by virtue of second-place Janesville's shootout victory over Port Huron on Saturday. The North Stars and Bandits will close out their weekend series on Sunday afternoon; Face-off is slated for 2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET.
