Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild won their fourth straight game with a 4-1 victory Friday over the Dawson Creek Rage at the Town Toyota Center.
Dawson Creek lit the first lamp with 3:26 left before the first intermission on a tremendous individual effort by Dylan Rota. It was the only goal that the Rage would be able to muster.
The Wild bit back in the second period with a pair of goals. Kyle Vogel (Richland, Wash.) knotted the score, 1-1, with 7:15 remaining in the second stanza when he tickled the twine on a high wrister from the slot. Blake Roubos (Niagara Falls, Ontario) set up the goal after he went coast-to-coast and beat a defenseman wide before passing to Vogel. Kyle Huson (Parker, Colo.) picked up the second helper.
Ben Carey (Centennial, Colo.) gave the Wild their first lead of the game less than two minutes later on his 24th goal of the season. Carey closed in on net in a 2-on-1 situation with Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo.). Carey chose not to pass and took a shot that Edward Dyson denied, but the rebound came right back to Carey, who scored on his second shot. Trace Redmond (McKinney, Texas) earned the primary assist on a pass to Carey at the red line. Huson also assisted.
The Wild tacked on two more goals in the third period. Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) finished off a 2-on-1 from Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) 17 seconds into the final stanza to put the Wild up, 3-1. Parker Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) was credited with the second assist. Cope closed out scoring with 5:22 remaining in regulation when he blocked a shot at the Wild blue line that turned into a breakaway. Cope scored with a backhander.
Greg Lewis (Mars, Pa.), who committed to Clarkson University this week, made 13 saves on 14 shots to earn his 11th win of the season. Dyson stopped 24 of the 28 shots he faced. Power plays were not a factor in the game. Wenatchee went 0-for-2 on its chances while Dawson Creek went 0-for-1.
Four different players scored a goal for the Wild - Vogel, Carey, Kerr and Cope. Huson notched two assists.
Game 2 of this weekend's series between the Wild (33-15-6) and Rage (9-39-3) is set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The third game of the series will begin at 5:05 p.m. Sunday.
