
Kalamazoo Scores Five at Home for Sixth Time of Season Against Michigan

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings got five goals from five different players on their way to a 5-3 victory over the Michigan Warriors on Saturday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West. The five tallies for the Jr. K-Wings makes it the sixth time they have scored 5+ goals on the season against the Michigan Warriors, all of which have been at home.
Kalamazoo gave themselves a 1-0 lead on a wrist shot by Anthony Appleyard. Appleyard's ninth goal of the season gave him the team lead amongst Jr. K-Wings defenseman. The tally was the only one of the opening period, giving Kalamazoo a one-goal lead entering the locker room after twenty minutes of play.
Kalamazoo opened up a two-goal lead off Dan Cesarz's 7th goal of the season. The goal was scored just 1:17 into the middle period.
Establishing a 3-0 lead six and a half minutes into the second period was Brandon Flood who netted his 14th goal of the season on a one-timer from the slot.
Michigan wouldn't be held off the score sheet for long, as Bobby Bodette finally beat Kalamazoo goaltender, Ken MacLean on a wrist-shot that found the top corner. The shorthanded goal for Bodette was his fifth of the season.
The Warriors pulled to within one when Ben Gislason scored is fourth of the season 3:08 into the third.
Michigan capped off their three unanswered goal run to tie the game on a power play goal from Daniel Sakalian, his second of the season.
The tie however, would not last long for Michigan, as it took just 1:26 for Kalamazoo to re-establish the lead. Jacob McDowell found a loose puck on the doorstep to knock home his 15th of the season.
Christian George capped of the victory with his eighth of the year with just over two minutes remaining in the third period.
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West again on Saturday, March 24th against the Jamestown Ironmen.
