Wild coaching search begins

With a vacant head coaching position merely days old, the Wild office has been flooded with resumes. Of the resumes already received, three will be interviewed by the end of the week for the position. Here are the three candidates so far:

Jim Cox of St. Charles, Missouri has over 40 years of coaching experience. Cox began coaching football in 1977 at the high school level and reached the college level with stints at FCS Division Southeast Missouri State and of the NAIA, William Penn University and Missouri College. Cox was an assistant and head coach with the River City Rage of the UIF from 2005-2007 and was the assistant general manager of the Florida Flare of the United National Gridiron League, which has suffered with instability. Cox's career highlights include 40 conference, district and state championships in his 40+ years of coaching both football and track, two undefeated high school state football championships, was defensive coordinator for numerous top defenses at the NAIA level, coached numerous NFL players and even an Olympic world-record breaker in track.

Webbie Burnett of Pensacola, Florida has over 6 years of arena football coaching experience and 15 years of arena football and college playing experience. Burnett played offensive and defensive line for the Orlando Predators of the AFL from 1992-2000 and the Toronto Phantoms of the AFL in 2001. Burnett began coaching the offensive and defensive line while with the Macon Knights of the AF2 in 2002 and led them to Arena Cup berth in 2003. Burnett then went on to be the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach with the Arkansas Twisters of the AF2 for two seasons. He then moved to the AFL as the OL-DL coach with the Kansas City Brigade and most recently was the OL-DL coach and special teams coordinator with the South Georgia Wildcats of the AF2 in 2008 under AF2 coach of the year Derek Stingley.

Wild offensive coordinator Floyd Johnson is also a candidate for the head coaching spot. Johnson has extensive experience on both offense and defense with the 'double motion' and was most recently the head coach of the New Mexico Wildcats of the AIFA in 2008. Johnson was also the head coach of the Colorado Wildcats of the NIFL (National Indoor Football League) from 2005-2006 and the defensive coordinator, defensive backs and wide receivers coach for the San Angelo Stampede in 2004. Johnson also played wide receiver and defensive back for the Colorado Wildcats, Wichita Stealth and Mobile Wizards of the AF2 and the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. Coach Johnson has also had workouts with the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings during his playing days.
