Wiggins and Abbott Receive Player of the Week Awards

ROSEMONT, Illinois - June 11, 2013 - The Chicago Bandits opened the 2013 season hosting a four-game home stand against the Akron Racers. The Bandits won three of four games, outscoring the opponent 30-6 while collecting 40 hits, seven of which came from Megan Wiggins. Monica Abbott was also impressive in her 2013 debut, pitching a complete seven in game three, allowing just one hit and striking out 11. As a result to their success, the pair were awarded NPF Player of Week honors.

NPF Players of the Week:

Pitcher of the Week - Monica Abbott - Chicago Bandits

Offensive Player of the Week - Megan Wiggins - Chicago Bandits

Defensive Player of the Week - Tess Sito - Akron Racers

Abbott pitched all seven innings in Chicago's win against the Racers on Friday, June 7. She recorded 11 strikeouts while only allowing one hit and no runs in the defeat.

In the four-game opening series against the Racers, Wiggins was 7-11 at the plate with a .636 AVG resulting in a whopping 11 RBIs, including three doubles and two homeruns.

In addition to being named the NPF Player of the Week, Wiggins was also named Athlete of the Week on WSN247.com, an online magazine celebrating women's sports and female athletes.
