GENEVA, ILLINOIS- The Chicago Steel will host their fifth annual Wiener Dog Races presented by PetSuites this Saturday night followed on Sunday afternoon by Daddy/Daughter Day with special guest Barbie and the return of the Slumberland Family Pack Deal, all part of a weekend series against the Madison Capitols at Fox Valley Ice Arena to kick off a stretch of six consecutive home games.

Saturday, March 4 is one of the biggest promotional nights of the year as 15 wiener dogs are scheduled to compete for prizes provided by PetSuites in the fan-favorite event.

Last year's champion, Bean, returns to try and defend her crown. Past "wieners" include Barry Sanders (2020) and Monty (2018, 2019).

All entrants will take the ice to race during the first intermission for a preliminary heat with the top four finishers qualifying to move onto the final heat during the second intermission.

Other dog-related promotions Saturday include Hot Dog Trivia, Treat Shuffle and Price is Right: Dog Items Edition. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.

On Sunday, the Steel will host Daddy/Daughter Day with a special appearance by Barbie. Fans can meet and take photographs with the special guest and kids can visit the coloring station set up behind the goal.

Fans are encouraged to dress up and in-game promotions will include Name that Princess, a Hair Braiding Competition, and a Daddy Dress-Up Relay. Puck drop Sunday is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT.

Sunday marks the return of the Slumberland Family Pack, a deal which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas/waters, four chips and four chuck-a-pucks for just $50. The package may be purchased in quantities of four to eight and may be purchased online and selecting from the column on the right side of the ticketing page.

The Steel are coming off a 5-4 loss in overtime to the Dubuque Fighting Saints Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Dubuque Ice Arena. The Steel turned a 3-1 first period deficit into a 4-3 lead in the third period before Dubuque tied the game and William Staring scored his second goal of the night with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to end it. The Steel have lost two games in a row and three of their last four.

The Steel enter the weekend with a new face in the lineup after acquiring defenseman Reid Conn from the Fargo Force along with four 2023 draft picks and additional conditional picks in exchange for forward Zam Plante in a trade executed prior to the USHL's trade deadline on Monday, Feb. 27.

This weekend will mark the eighth and ninth of ten scheduled regular season meetings between the Madison Capitols (11-30-2-1; 25 pts) and the Chicago Steel (29-14-3-1; 62 pts). So far this season, the Steel are 5-2-0-0 against the Capitols. In their last matchup on Jan. 14 for the Steel's Teddy Bear Toss at Fox Valley Ice Arena, the Steel fell 4-2 to the Capitols.

Former Steel forward Jack Brandt registered his first USHL goal in his first game against his former team, a goal which broke a 1-1 third period tie. Madison would add two more goals in the frame, holding off a Chicago rally to earn the victory.

The Steel's USHL leading power play could mean trouble for Madison's last place penalty kill which as a success rate of 70.5% (98-for-139). The Steel's power play has an overall success rate of 30.6% (55-for-180), thriving at home with a success rate of 32.7%. Madison's penalty kill is slight better on the road, improving by 1.8% and placing 13th overall.
